The Deputy Director, Defence Media Operation, Brigadier General Abdullahi Ibrahim, says troops intercepted Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists crossing from Cameroon to Nigeria with weapons and other logistics.
This was disclosed on Thursday during the biweekly briefing of the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The military high command added that the troops of Operations Hadin Kai killed five terrorists during a gun battle that ensued, arrested 10, and recovered arms and other logistics, including bags of flour and detergent.
He said, “Troops of Operation Hadin Kai troops, on June 22, 2023, following an intelligence report on terrorists crossing from Cameroon to Nigeria, laid ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State and made contact with the terrorists.
“Following a firefight, troops neutralised five Boko Haram terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and recovered one bag each of flour and detergent.
“Furthermore, between June 15 and 20, troops arrested 10 Boko Haram terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorist collaborators and suppliers at different locations within the general area of operations and recovered some logistic supplies meant for the terrorists, including mosquito nets, mosquito coils, two bags of sugar, and the sum of N246,235.00.”
He also said troops killed a terrorist commander identified as Naoib Jundullah.
Ibrahim said, “Following the operation, troops ambushed and neutralised a notorious Boko Haram terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorist commander identified as Naoib Jundullah and recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 4 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo.”
He added that a total of 967 terrorists surrendered to the military during the period under review.
Ibrahim said, “Equally, during troops’ offensive operations against terrorists in the theatre of operations, a total of 967 terrorists, comprising 82 adult males, 354 adult females, and 531 children, surrendered to troops at different locations within the joint area of operations.”
