Mr Sambo said that residents of the village fled to neighbouring communities for cover.
At least 40 persons were killed as bandits raided Zurak, a village in the Wase Local Government area of Plateau State on Monday.
A youth leader in the area, Sahpi’i Sambo, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, explaining how bandits in droves attacked the community.
“More than 40 people were killed and many injured. Residents of the village have fled to neighbouring communities for cover,” Mr Sambo was quoted as saying.
Lamenting delay in response of security operatives, Mr Sambo said
“As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived at the community. It was deadly.”
Also, spokesperson for the Plateau State police, Alfred Alabo confirmed the incident, adding that police would soon release a statement on the incident.
“Our press release will soon be out. We are working on it,” Mr Alabo told Peoples Gazette
In recent times, Plateau communities have been under attack as bandits continue to raid, kill armless citizens and torch houses.
An attack that lasted two days last December left about 150 dead and hundreds displaced.
