He said that the free transportation would include the already existing free train mass transit scheme.
The Plateau government has provided free transportation for residents of the state, ahead of Christmas and New Year festivities.
Commissioner for transport in the state, Davou Jatau, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Monday in Jos.
Mr Jatau said that the free transportation, which covered intra and inter-state routes, was aimed at assisting the residents who wished to travel for the festivities.
He said that the free transportation would include the already existing free train mass transit scheme.
“Due to the current economic hardship, Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, through the ministry of transport, has introduced a free Christmas and New Year holiday mass transit programme for residents and those in the diaspora.
“From Monday, Dec. 23 to Tuesday, Dec. 24, all the metro buses will provide free services within Jos and Bukuru metropolis, with extended routes other than the usual ones,” he said.
Mr Jatau said that vehicles had been provided to convey people from Jos to other parts of the country free of charge.
He assured residents that vehicles would also be available between Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, 2025 across various locations to convey people back to the state.
