Gunmen have kidnapped a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, Eyo Edet, at his filling station, Eyotech Nigeria Limited, in the Oron Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the politician was at the filling station when the suspects stormed the premises on Monday and whisked him away in a Sienna vehicle.
A source told our correspondent that Edet, who served as the Deputy Coordinator of PDP’s Divine Campaign Organisation in Oron during the last elections, was later taken into a speed boat and conveyed to an unknown destination.
The source further revealed that the suspects set the Sienna vehicle ablaze in a bid to conceal the crime.
As of the time of filing this report, the source said the abductors had yet to contact Edet’s family to demand ransom.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, while confirming the incident, said the state Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, had visited the scene and ordered an investigation into the matter.
He said, “We received the information, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has visited the scene of the incident and went to the waterfront. Even the Sienna vehicle used to perpetrate the act has been recovered. An investigation has commenced already and I am sure the perpetrators will be brought to book in no distant time.”
