Mr Afolayan said, “Welcome to the life of a black footballer in 2024.’’
Bundesliga club St Pauli Hamburg have backed their player Oladapo Afolayan after racial online abuse and are ready to take legal action.
“FC St Pauli condemn the racist insults on social media against our player Dapo Afolayan in the strongest possible terms,” the club said on their social media platforms.
“The club will examine all possibilities to take legal action against these insults and threats.”
Afolayan had shared some insulting posts against himself and his family on his Instagram account after Saturday’s 1-0 victory at VfB Stuttgart.
“Welcome to the life of a black footballer in 2024,” he said.
St Pauli president Oke Göttlich said that “such comments are not opinions or trivial offences, but criminal hate content.
“As the entire FC St Pauli, we will like to give you, dear Dapo, all possible support. Together we stand against this disgusting hate speech! Full solidarity with Dapo!”
