Sokoto State Orthopaedic Hospital, Wamakko, has resumed osteoarthritis surgeries after the previous administration suspended them in 2016.
Addressing journalists after a successful surgery in Sokoto on Thursday, health commissioner Asabe Balarabe said that the resumption of surgeries was aimed at providing essential assistance to citizens of the state and beyond.
“The surgeries, encompassing knee, spinal and hip replacements, have been reintroduced by the administration of Dr Ahmed Aliyu to alleviate the sufferings of the individuals afflicted with such ailments,” she stated.
Ms Balarabe commended the team of surgeons for their dedication to enhancing the conditions of orthopedic patients.
She advised those with similar cases to seek medical attention at the hospital, where surgeries were offered at affordable rates.
The hospital’s chief medical director, Abdulkadir Mu’azu, underscored the surgeons’ readiness to perform successful operations on documented patients.
Mr Mu’azu said orthopaedic surgeons from secondary and tertiary health institutions were at the hospital and prepared to conduct surgical procedures on patients, following thorough documentation and diagnosis.
He thanked the Sokoto government, particularly the health ministry, for its support to the hospital, saying that this had enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the personnel.
