Biden says the US had strategically positioned aircraft and warships in the Middle East before Iran’s attack on Israel occurred.
United States President Joe Biden has lauded American forces for their swift action in assisting Israel following an unprecedented attack launched by Iran.
In a statement, President Biden expressed condemnation for the attacks and praised the US military’s efforts in aiding Israel to intercept nearly all drones and missiles deployed by Iran during the assault.
According to President Biden, the US had strategically positioned aircraft and warships in the region before the attack occurred, underscoring the level of preparedness in response to the escalating tensions.
“I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms,” President Biden asserted, affirming America’s steadfast commitment to Israel’s security.
Israel reported that Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles towards its territory, marking the first direct attack from Iranian soil. While the majority of the projectiles were intercepted, a few managed to inflict damage, including a strike on an IDF base in southern Israel, resulting in injuries, including that of a young girl.
The attack came in the wake of Iran’s warning of retaliation for an earlier strike on its consulate in Syria, which claimed the lives of seven Iranian officers, including a senior commander. Despite Israel neither confirming nor denying responsibility for the attack, tensions between the two nations have heightened.
President Biden reiterated his support for Israel during a call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “I’ve just spoken with Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel.

Additionally, President Biden announced plans to convene G7 leaders unprecedented attacks “to co-ordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack”.
In response to the escalating situation, President Biden returned to the White House from a planned visit to Delaware to receive briefings from national security officials. The administration remains vigilant against any potential threats to US assets, emphasising the need for continued monitoring of the situation.
Meanwhile, Republicans in the House of Representatives are drafting legislation to bolster aid to Israel and impose sanctions on Iran. Additionally, reports indicate that American warships intercepted missiles aimed at Israel during the attack.
The United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force (RAF) has also pledged support in the region, with British jets ready to intercept attacks within range of existing missions in the Middle East. Furthermore, the UK Ministry of Defence has deployed additional resources, including more jets and air refuelling tankers.
Iran has warned of further retaliation if Israel or the US respond to the attack, while other nations, including the UK, France, and Canada, have condemned Iran’s actions and expressed solidarity with Israel.
