The acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju, has assured that passport processing procedures would receive greater priority to address the complaints of Nigerians.
CG Adepoju also promised to constitute more passport point offices especially in Lagos State where the population was high in order to address the issue of passport delays.
She gave the charge during a parade in Lagos State to mark her takeover, while ordering personnel of the service to desist from unprofessional conducts.
Adepoju, a Deputy Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, was appointed Acting Comptroller General of the Service following the retirement of Mr Isah Jere Idris.
Represented by the Comptroller, Lagos Passport Command Office, Mr. Mfon Udoh, the CG noted that the service under her leadership would prioritise passport processing procedures, staff welfare and issues of border security.
Mrs. Adepoju said all passport control officers must ensure that passport applicants were served promptly and with dignity.
The Acting Comptroller General explained that she decided to focus “on personnel welfare and passport issues because the two areas have witnessed lots of complaint from both the applicants and personnel of the immigration service.”
On his part, the Passport control officer, Mr. Sanni Jega, a Deputy Comptroller, stressed that applicants should not patronise touts, but rather, apply online by themselves.
He said there was no scarcity of passport booklets, but explained that delays in processing applications were usually as a result of applicants supplying wrong National Identification Number, NIN.
