Nigeria lost their opening game to Egypt 0-3 and Cameroon did the same to Egypt 2-3.
The Nigeria under-17 female volleyball team on Monday in Abuja beat their Cameroonian counterparts 3-1 in their second match of the ongoing 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball.
The match played at the package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, saw the Nigerian girls taking revenge from their previous lost to Egypt.
The Nigerian team lost the first set by 19- 25; they however fought back to win the remaining three sets.
They won the second set 25-20, the third set 25-13 and the fourth set 25-22. The Cameroonian girls fought back but they could not utilise their chances.
Speaking after the match, coach of the Nigerian team, Sunday Akapson, said they cannot jubilate yet because they still have matches to play.
“Congratulations to the girls for the work well done, this is just a starting point for us. We are meeting them again on Wednesday in the semi final and we want to assure you that the girls will replicate this victory,”he said.
On his part, Tamoo Henry, the official delegate of the Cameroonian team said the girls did well even though they lost the match.
“It was a difficult match against Egypt on Sunday where we lost our first game and today against Nigeria. The girls are tired, they are children and we must encourage them and I believe that they will do better in their next match,”he said.
Nigeria lost their opening game to Egypt 0-3 while Cameroon also lost their first game to Egypt 2-3.
Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroon are the only countries participating in the tournament after two countries pulled out due to logistics problems.
Nigeria will take on Cameroon in the semi final on Wednesday. The 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball which started on Saturday is expected to end on December 8.
