The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said it received 1,547 complaints of alleged human rights abuses from January to October 2023 in Kano.
The NHRC coordinator in Kano, Shehu Abdullahi, revealed this in an interview on Tuesday in Kano.
He said out of the 1,547 cases, 1,320 had been treated and 227 pending.
According to him, most of the cases were related to issues of women and gender rights, the rights of children, civil and political rights, discrimination, and economic and socio-cultural rights.
“Out of the 1,547 cases received, 720 were on abandonment of family responsibilities, 250 for domestic violence, 27 cases were for custody and access to children, and 10 cases were on forceful marriage.
“310 cases were on the rights of children, 131 cases for survival and development, and 10 cases of sexual abuse, while the remaining 89 cases were on civil, unlawful arrest, threats to life, and discrimination,” Mr Abdullahi said.
